During the winter, Oakmont’s Student Council, like many other clubs, is experiencing their less busy part of the year. They just finished up their busy fall/holiday season with HOCO, Turkey Bingo, Clause for a Cause, and many other events.
The Clause for Cause Candy Cane sales raised a lot of money which will be donated on Oakmont’s behalf to the Special Olympics Polar Plunge in early March. Student Council also Decked the Halls of Four Corners the week before Winter Break in honor of the many holidays celebrated by Oakmont students during this time of year. The kids holiday party had a great turn out of 16 kids of AWRSD staff members attending. They were able to participate in many games and crafts, while also receiving presents from Santa Clause himself. The Holiday Spirit Week was a success once again with notable participation from teachers, such as Mr. Stiles as Snow Miser on Snow Miser V. Heat Miser day, and many red shirts and khakis among students on Tuesday for Jake from State Farm V. Flo from Progressive day.
Coming up this winter, Student Council will participate in a Winter Community Service Retreat at Grafton High School. This will include making blankets for Project Linus, donating hygiene products to those in need, and making cards and bracelets for local hospitalized Grafton children. They will also be hosting the statewide Special Olympics Unified Bocce Tournament at Overlook Middle School on January 26th. It would be much appreciated if you could show your love and support for Oakmont players by coming out to the tournament. At the end of January there will be Valentine’s Day Carnation sales that will go until right up before Valentine’s Day. Show your appreciation for your friends, or significant other by buying them a carnation! Lastly Student Council will be hosting many AWRSD elementary students for a “Kids Night Out” around Valentine’s day. This gives parents a chance to go out to dinner or relax at home while their kids have a blast playing games, doing crafts and watching movies at Oakmont. After their not so slow season, Student Council are looking forward to attending the MASC Conference in Hyannis in early March and many other events that they are putting together for the Oakmont student body.
