At Oakmont Regional, Mrs. Jennifer Morin – our high school librarian – incorporates fun activities into our everyday life. During the winter season, Morin gave students visiting the library scratch-off snowflakes to design. Frequent visitors, including myself, were able to take a brain break from learning, as well as decorating our favorite space, known as Nims Library.
At the end of almost every month, Morin hosts an afterschool program that is open to all students to bond, communicate, and do relaxing and entertaining activities with friends. She often uses her own money, along with small donations (depending on the activity) to organize these events. She provides snacks, drinks, candy, and supplies to accommodate all students’ allergies and preferences only out of the kindness of her heart.
During Halloween, Morin ran a function called Build a Frankentoy, where she provided glue, scissors, sewing materials, food, and stuffed animals/toys so that any student who wanted to participate could. At Christmas time it was Build a Gingerbread House (again providing all materials needed), and on Valentine’s Day, she individually wrapped a plethora of books, along with buying chocolate and making cards, for students to have a “Blind Date with a Book.” This lovely experience is still going on today (2/28/2024) so make sure to stop by the library before it is over!
I am participating in the Blind Date with a Book currently and I think it is such a fun and new way to find a book. Each novel is wrapped in wrapping paper and a string bow, along with a card attached to the front with a short description of the genre, tags, and “pick up line.”
This amazing woman does not get enough credit for all of the hard work she does. She administers a safe, quiet, and colorful space, to do school work, play games, or even just relax. As a senior, an environment like this is crucial for me, and I will truly miss nothing more than Mrs.Morin and the beautiful library.
Something I wanted to make sure was advertised was the point that she hosts a club called The Library Advisory Club, which is open to all students. If you are interested in joining, let Mrs. Morin know.
Thank you, Mrs. Morin. Your hard work does not go unappreciated.
