If you’re a part of the sports world, March is when March Madness happens. This is where all of the college’s NCAA basketball teams come together and compete to win the big trophy. Both the men’s and women’s college basketball teams play during March Madness. Last year’s winners were UConn for men’s and LSU for women’s. It was a big shock that LSU had won the women’s basketball game against Iowa, but it was history made for LSU. Winning their first-ever trophy in school history. UConn however won their fifth championship trophy. So will these teams make it far in March Madness and have a chance to repeat as champions? While interviewing many people, there were different thoughts on UConn winning again.
There were a lot of people thinking that UConn wouldn’t even make it past the Sweet 16. JJ Hicks, senior, thinks that Auburn is going to win against UConn and kick UConn out of the tournament. But JJ is also rooting for North Carolina.
“North Carolina has been playing very well and they are looking to get revenge against their former teammate Caleb Love of Arizona with a possible Elite 8 matchup. I’m very confident that they will be able to reach the final 4 with their defensive efficiency going up a bunch before the tournament.” – JJ Hicks
Zach Valiton thinks that Stenson is gonna kick out UConn but Ty Curtis thinks that UConn is gonna make it to the finals but lose to whoever their opponent is.
While people think UConn doesn’t have a chance of winning again, others do think that they will take the trophy home again.
“UConn is gonna win because they’re built for it.” – Mr. Napolitano.
Mr. Napolitano believes that they’re gonna win again and that their team is amazing. Liam Mullane seems to have the same opinion but was tentative about thinking UConn is gonna win again.
“I was a little tentative to pick UConn because they are defending champs. Winning March Madness two times in a row is almost impossible, but UConn is even better than they were last year so I went with them.” – Liam Mullane.
With UConn being the team that’s going to be watched, there are different teams that people are gonna be watching as well. Jordan Patojas and Liam Mullane are following their heart and think that Duke is going to win this year, but could the win be against UConn?
Overall, it seems like there are very mixed thoughts about UConn gonna win again. But from interviewing people on this, I think UConn is gonna have a good chance of making it to the semi-finals. While all of this is happening for men, the women’s rankings are shocking. LSU, champions of last year, is ranked #3 and two spots below Iowa. It doesn’t seem like there’s gonna be a chance of LSU winning again and Iowa will win. But will it happen?
