This past Thursday, May 16, Oakmont had their last concert of the year. The Spring Concert featured the Concert Choir, Select Choir, Jazz Band, and Concert Band. The music program’s seniors were also recognized.
The first group that went on was the Concert Choir. They performed three pieces which began with See You Again, words and music by Cameron Thomaz, Charlie Puth, Justin Franks, and Andrew Cedar, and arranged by Roger Emerson. The second piece was Kaleidoscope Heart, words and music by Sara Bareilles and arranged by Allison Girvan. The Concert Choir’s final piece of the year was I Hear The Sound, words and music by Will Lopes.
The second group that performed at the Spring Concert was the Select Choir. They performed four pieces which began with Trashin’ The Camp, words and music by Phil Collins and arranged by Moses Hogan. They then performed Somewhere. music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and arranged by Deke Sharon. Their third piece was Evergreen, music by Yebba, arranged by Ruben Smits and featured soloists Julia Feeley, Nadalee Madhere, and Molly McDaniel. The Select Choir’s last piece was Baba Yetu, music by Christopher Tin featuring soloists Abby Cennoti, Jonny Currie, Ryan Mayne, and Westin Michaud.
The third group to go on was Oakmont’s Jazz Band. They performed four pieces, starting off with Doozy, by Benny Carter and edited by Jeffrey Sultanoff and Rob DuBoff. The second piece was Change is Good by Gordon Goodwin, featuring soloists Jonny Currie on trumpet, James Daigle on trombone, Karl Sargent on trumpet, and AJ Lasorsa on trombone. The third piece was Cry Me a River, words and music by Arthur Hamilton, arranged by Victor Lopez, and featured guitarist Allison Flannery on vocals! The last song that the Jazz Band performed this year was Hit the Ground Running, by Gordon Goodwin and featured soloists Joe Barrows on alto saxophone and Gavin Stone on drums. Joe soloed throughout most of the song and near the end he and Gavin took over and played a feature just the two of them.
The final group to go on at Oakmont’s Spring Concert was the Concert Band. They performed five songs, beginning with La La Land, music by Justin Hurwitz and arranged by Michael Brown. The second piece was Saying Goodbye, by Oakmont’s very own Ryan Mayne who not only wrote the piece but also conducted it! The third piece performed was By The Rivers of Babylon, by Ed Huckeby. The fourth piece was Passacaglia in A Minor, by a former Oakmont band-parent, Phil Whitall. The final piece performed by the Concert Band was Suite of African American Spirituals, by Charles Booker.
The Oakmont Music Program also bid farewell to all of the seniors who performed in the Spring Concert. The seniors included Joe Barrows, Jonny Currie, James Daigle, Kielyn DeMoura, Sam Flannery, Ryan Mayne, Molly McDaniel, Jack McInnis, Westin Michaud, Patrick Roy, Ryan Smith, and James Testaverde.
