Imagine you are a professor with an underfunded team of students and you go out to one of the most dangerous tornadoes in history to try and test your prototype by the name of Dorothy, which will collect new data about tornadoes. Then you find out your rival has stolen your idea and so you convince your ex-husband to help you get to the storm and beat your enemy. Well that’s the case for the original Twister, however it’s a little different in the new film.
The movie Twister (1996) is an old, classic movie directed by Jan De Bont. The main characters are Bill Harding (Bill Paxton) and his wife Dr. Jo Harding (Helen Hunt). This movie is kind of ironic because Dr. Jo Hardings is Bill’s ex-wife and they have to work together in the same team. Also Dr. Jo Harding is still in love with Bill, while Bill has a new girlfriend, Dr. Melissa Reeves.
The new movie Twister (2024) is a re imagined classic with many similarities and differences. This new movie was directed by Lee Isaac Chung. The main characters are Tyler Owens (Glen Powel), a social media influencer who chases tornadoes, and Kate Carter (Daisy Edgar-Jones), a storm chaser and Operations Officer. These two main characters are not ex husband and wife, they are two leaders of opposing teams that eventually work together to survive the storm.
This new movie, Twisters, is technically not a remake of Twister, although they have lots of similarities. For example a similarity between the two is both of the female leads and driven by past trauma. Kate’s trauma is losing her friends and boyfriend in a storm and Dr. Jo Harding’s is losing her father due to a storm as well.

Scenes like the main characters using Dorothy, both movies use code names such as: Tin man, Lion and Scarecrow. Both movies use a red pickup truck in many scenes. Kate wears the same clothes as Jo in the original movie (a white tank-top, Khaki over shirt and cargo pants.)
