One night a year, all music artists get together at an annual event called the “MTV VMAs.” The VMAs are events where music artists can win awards in different categories. The award the winning artist will receive is a statue of an astronaut on the moon. This year the VMAs were on September 11th, 2024 and there are 53 categories that these artists can win. Below, are the top 2024 artists who won different VMA awards. 

Chappell Roan, a new artist who attended the VMAs this year, was awarded for being the Best New Artist. This is her first-ever VMA; hopefully, she will continue to win more throughout her music career. Chappell Roan performed her new song, “Good Luck, Babe,” at the VMAs. Her latest song, “Good Luck, Babe,” has 100 million hits on Spotify and is number four on the Billboard Hot 100. 

The Song of the Year award went to Sabrina Carpenter for her song “Expresso,” which came out on April 11, 2024. This is Sabrina Carpenter’s first VMA award throughout her 10 years in the music industry. Sabrina Carpenter was one of many who performed at the VMAs, she performed 3 songs from her album titled, “Short n’ Sweet.” The songs she sang were, “Please Please Please,” “Taste,” and “Expresso,” which have been the number one hits around the US. 

Ariana Grande did not attend the VMAs this year but won an award for Best Cinematography. She skipped the VMAs this year because she decided to focus all of her attention on the movie Wicked, which will be released on November 22, 2024. This was Ariana Grande’s 10th VMA award out of her 12 years in the music industry. 

Along with Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish skipped the 2024 VMAs because she has been busy with the “Hit Me Hard and Soft tour.” However, Billie Eilish won a Video for Good award for her music video for the song “What Was I Made for.” Billie Eilish has been making music since 2012 and has had a very successful career. 

Katy Perry, a music artist who has been in the industry for 23 years, won an award for her most iconic performance in 2013. Katy Perry has made history with all of her great performances and songs. Along with Chappel Roan and Sabrina Carpenter, Katy Perry also performed at the VMAs. She performed her most popular songs, “E.T.” and “Teenage Dream.” 

An artist who has the most VMA awards is Taylor Swift. This year at the VMAs she won 7 awards, but overall she has won 30 VMA awards throughout the years. The categories she won this year were Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Song of the Summer, Editing, and Direction. Taylor Swift has always had a successful career, but after her “Eras Tour” concert started in March of 2023, she had one of the most successful music careers ever. She is one of the best-selling music artists in history. 

Overall, these artists have made history with their music and will hopefully continue. The list above only has 6 out of the 53 winners from 2024. This award show has been going on for years and will continue to be a very successful show.
