We’ve all been to Oakmont pep rallies now; it doesn’t matter how you feel about them, you have to admit they’re big and loud. But are they fun? Do they work? Most students seem to think so. We asked students if they were excited for last Friday’s rally and what they said surprised us. In a poll of 75 Oakmont students, over 80% said they were excited and looking forward to it. Most students who have been before really thought that Oakmont pep rallies got them hyped for the game.
WHAT STUDENTS THOUGHT:
After the rally, we were able to pull some Oakmont students aside and interview them about their experiences.
Oakmont Junior, Jackson Traylor, was asked what his favorite part was. “I enjoyed the color guard stuff with all the flags being thrown. The band also sounded really good. That “game-winning play” could have been a little better though.”
WHAT HAPPENED:
We think this is one of the best Homecoming pep rallies we’ve attended. It started great with the color guard and the band doing what they always do. The music sounded perfect and the colorguard was the best they looked. After the band finished up they moved on to the relay race between the classes. The president and vice-president of each class came down with all the new teachers this year.
It started with each teacher going in a spinny chair and getting wrapped up in toilet paper. Then they were wheeled across the court and had to make a free throw. It ended up taking a little longer than everyone thought when it took them all a few minutes for even one teacher to make it.
After the relay, the spartan mascots – Ryan Rollo, Rachel Oneil, and Chloe Kruse – came out and hyped up the crowd for some t-shirts. Members of the student council-Jocelyn Cleaves and Kaeli Rasmussen-came out throwing t-shirts to all the students. Next, the football team was introduced. They ran out and did their “game-winning play” against the teachers. James Hamilton caught the snap and threw it up to QB David Roy. Roy went up and caught it on Mr. Napolitano’s head.
Overall this was a great way to kick off the HOCO spirit week and to get everyone excited for the big football game.
