Leading into the season, Chicago moved on from Justin Fields this off-season and traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a potential 6th-round pick. With 5 Weeks into the season, and the Steelers being undefeated for the first three weeks, let’s see how well Justin played in these 5 games.
Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, with all of their points being from field goals, this game was defense-oriented, but Justin is adjusting to this new team with 17 passes, 23 attempts, 156 passing yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions. These are pretty decent stats for a new quarterback on a new team. Fields only took 1 sack, compared to his time with Chicago, this is an improvement.
In week 2 against the Denver Broncos, Justin threw one touchdown and had 2 field goals. Fields threw his first TD as a Steeler against the Broncos who kept the Buccaneers at one touchdown the next week. This week, he showed improvement in the offense and was able to give the ball to his receivers while only missing 7 passes for 113 yards and taking 1 sack the whole game the broncos defense couldn’t get a hold of Justin for most of the game.
In week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers, Justin threw his first interception with the Steelers but was able to make all the receivers get several receptions. This shows that he’s able to read when a man is open and read the coverage of the defense. With Justin only taking 2 sacks with 0 fumbles and having 6 carries for 6 yards Justins rushing ability in this match was not able to be used in this game.
In week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts, Justin threw for over 300 passing yards. No Steelers quarterback has done that since 2020. Justin’s accuracy has been on point in these past games with the Steelers being the 8th worst team when it comes to separations against this strong Colts defense when it comes to the pass. With that, Justin had 10 carries for 55 yards and 2 touchdowns with his rushing ability shinging more and more.
In week 5 against the Dallas Cowboys, Justin threw for 131 passing yards and rushed for 27 yards. Most of the receivers have no more than 35 receiving yards. It’s not one of his best games, but I feel like the Steelers will bounce back and have a great game against the Raiders, with Justin as the starting quarterback for the Steelers.
