Do you think the pros of the phone holders outweigh the cons?
Many schools have started requiring students to put their phones in holders during class. Oakmont introduced phone holders in 2022.
Before, students were allowed to have their phones during the day or in their backpacks. Some teachers would let you use your phone when you were done with all your work.
There are many pros of the phone holder: getting distracted and being able to focus on your work and finish it. Amelia Garlock says, ” I would say the phone holders are helping people not be so addicted to their phones.” I agree, that many students are addicted to their phones, while saying they aren’t addicted, they just feel discomfort when their phones are away from them or not in their pocket. We also have to ask to use them but only for phone calls to parents or if we NEED them for a class. Many people also don’t seem to mind that their phones are in the holder. Maggie Hubbard says ” There’s no service in the school anyways so not having phones isn’t really a big problem.”
The cons of the phone holder include the following: needing to text a parent and not being able to, having to go to the office to call a parent, or to receive a phone call. If there happens to be an emergency where we should be able to text our parents, and we don’t have our phone on us, how are we going to contact them? Some people are also careless so when they put their phone in the phone holder it could fall and break some of the phones in the holder. The holders have fallen many times before, even if someone slightly bumps into them they could fall. Brenton Mattox says, ” I think it’s kinda stupid because teachers use the phones in the holder for attendance and yes some people just don’t put them in and they don’t care, but other people don’t have phones and teachers don’t believe them and then the student gets yelled at. So I think it’s also unfair for people.”

the pros outweigh the cons but seriously, what do they expect us to do when there is an emergency and our phones are in a caddy?
