After hours of interviewing, handing out surveys, and counting survey answers, we have finally come up with the most accurate Oakmont school lunch ranking. We handed out over 100 surveys asking Oakmont students a few questions: top three lunches, least favorite, and what would you add/bring back. And these are the results.
Top 3 Favorites:
Unsurprisingly, Nashville hot chicken sandwich was the favorite with over a quarter of the people surveyed putting it in their 1 or 2 spot. General Tso’s was also very popular with the most votes in the number 1 spot but almost none in their two and three spots. This does make sense though. I think it’s the kind of lunch you either love or hate. Chicken and waffles came in a respectable third with 18 top-three votes. This is the full top ten in this graph.
Least Favorites:
Coming in as an easy “winner” for least favorite was the hot dog, with almost 1/3 of students surveyed putting it as their least favorite. We interviewed Oakmont senior Isaac Castillo about
this. “Some people say that the hotdog is bad but it’s kinda underrated and not as bad as some say it is.” Second to last was the Sloppy Joe which a lot of people think it’s much worse than the hot dog but didn’t vote for it on the day. Surprisingly, the pasta was another lunch that was voted in the bottom three. I think people find it kind of boring, but it doesn’t deserve this low of a ranking.
What Students Want Back:
The last question on the survey asked what students would add/bring back to Oakmont lunches. This was almost a unanimous vote, with over 50% of the vote being for Bosco sticks. In 2023, the lunch staff announced that they would no longer be serving the Oakmont delicacy: Bosco Sticks. This has to be one of the worst days in Oakmont’s recent history. Many students also said that they would add some more ethnic foods such as Indian, Mexican, Asian, and Hispanic. This would help add a lot more culturally diverse foods to Oakmont Regional.
Hopefully, after seeing this, Sloppy Joe and Hot Dog might be removed from the rotation and maybe replaced with something decent like Bosco Sticks. The amount of food wasted, during lunches that no one eats, is tragic. But the state still insists on making us grab a fruit or veggie that most people just throw out anyway. If they want to focus on us eating healthier, then maybe serve us good food that people will enjoy eating. Overall though the school lunch here at Oakmont has some really good choices for almost everyone but there are still things to improve.1

Valid list. I would put OG tachos all the way at the top though.

SLANDER don’t hate on the lunch ladies like that. And the sloppy joes are good.
