On October 12, The Oakmont-Overlook Marching Spartans drove to Oliver Ames High School in Easton, Massachusetts, to compete in the NESBA competition. This year, the tension is especially high since they were placed in the highest division, where the largest-sized bands compete.
They competed against Oliver Ames and Quincy/North Quincy High School, and their spot to present their show was at 7:50 pm. The show begins with a party scene, followed by the introduction of the aliens. Then, there is the ballad featuring “Earth Song” by Michael Jackson followed by the victory against the aliens.
Oliver Ames took first place with a score of 87.43, Oakmont-Overlook took second with 86.86, and Quincy-North Quincy third with 82.75. In terms of high-caption awards, Oakmont-Overlook took first in overall effect music and tied with Oliver Ames for overall effect visual. What does this loss mean for the rest of the season? Gavin Stone, a quad drum in the battery believes that, “We’re well on our way to first.”
While the Oakmont Marching Spartans have yet to take first this season, it has not impacted the hopes and spirits of anyone. The strong competition, the long rehearsals, and the amazingly put-together show are leading to an overall satisfying season. Good job Oakmont Marching Spartans!
