The Oakmont cross country team competed in the Division 3 state qualifier meet on Saturday morning. The boys’ team ran extremely well, placing 9th out of 29 and securing the second wildcard spot. They were the very last team to qualify. Junior Jayden Brostrom led the charge with a huge 30-second PR and a top-15 placement for a medal. Sophomore Chayse Parker and Senior Izaiah Dejesus were right behind him in the top 50 and with big PRs. The rest of the team was Sam Belcher, Brady Law, Nicholas Ethier, and Weston Cinclair. Brady Law had a rollercoaster of a season with many sicknesses but was able to come back when we needed him and secure a big personal record. With Junior Taiyo Minami out from a bad fever, Weston Cinclair had to step up and he definitely did. He ran over 2 minutes faster than ever before, going sub-20 minutes and securing our spot at state.
The girl’s team had a difficult race when they didn’t finish enough people to place in the race. The girl’s top runner, Sophmore Ruby Heagy, went out hard. Hoping to help qualify her team for the state championship, she went out faster than she could handle. Heagy went down with under a quarter mile left and could not finish the race. Senior Anna Horgan had a great race, running another personal record to close out her last cross-country season. Junior Katherine Horgan ran a season-best but was just a few places away from individually qualifying for states. Maise Rourke ran a great race going out hard and able to hang on long enough. Overall this was a great race for the girls to close out the season. Come watch the boys compete at the Division 3 State Championship, this Saturday at 2:45 at Fort Devens, Massachusetts.
