This upcoming weekend there will be an all-out war between two of the greatest fighters to ever compete in MMA.
In one corner you have Stipe Miocic, known as the MMA’s Heavyweight Goat. His accomplishments include being the only two-time heavyweight champ in the UFC’s history of a company, having a 20-4 record with not being in a non-championship bout since 2016, and 2 wins over Daniel Cormier, who is considered to be one of the greatest fighters to ever do MMA. has the most heavyweight champion wins in the UFC’s history, along with the most title defenses in the UFC’s heavyweight history, with that being 4.
In the other corner, you have a monster who is considered to be the greatest fighter to ever live, known as Jon “Bones” Jones. Jon has only one fight in the heavyweight division, but that fight was a championship fight against Ciryl Gane, whom he submitted in the first round after multiple years of layoff back in early 2023. Jon has the greatest resume in light-heavyweight MMA history with a 26-1 record. His one loss is a disqualification that many don’t believe should count as the attack he landed has become legalized since then. His accomplishments include being a 2 division champion in the Light-Heavyweight and Heavyweight divisions with the most championship wins in UFC history and the most Light-Heavyweight title defenses in UFC history, being the youngest champion in UFC history and being the pound-for-pound longest out of any fighter.
This Sunday they will be fighting at Madison Square Garden, and this is the most anticipated fight for the UFC. This fight is being advertised as the send-off for both Jon and Stipe—the final fight for both of their careers. This will be one of the biggest nights in MMA history and an incredibly sad one, as both are extremely respected fighters and will be greatly missed.
Jons’s strength in this fight is his cardio; we haven’t seen a lot of it at all in this new heavyweight division, as against Ciryl Gane, he submitted him in the first round extremely fast. But if we can see he’s kept his submission skills up, we can assume his cardio has stayed up as well. Jon’s Power has always been incredible with having a KO over Daniel Cormier in their second fight, but he’s more known as a submission artist, and he has that over Stipe immensely.
Stipes’ strength in this fight will be his knowledge of heavyweights and his power against them. He’s known as the Heavyweight GOAT for a reason, and that’s for breaking down everyone who has come at him. His power is insanely strong for how old he is for the sport, being 42.
In my opinion, I believe Jon walks through Stipe incredibly easily and retires on top. I can see a second-round late submission by Jon. The Stipes legacy won’t be affected by this loss, as it is against Jon Jones, the globally known “best fighter,” but it will sting.
Either way the outcome of this big fight, both fighters will still be respected, and this is a MUST WATCH for any person, as the buildup for this is amazing and will go down in history books to the end of an era for the MMA community.
