Christmas has been and will most likely always be the most anticipated holiday of the year. Throughout the years, Christmas has changed a lot in the past 1687 years. It also somehow has not changed that much because it started as a religious holiday, and now it is a slightly different religious holiday. Now why this is, I have no idea. Maybe it is because of how fast the world is moving, or maybe people just got bored of the same thing over and over, but nevertheless, it changed.
Originally Christmas was actually not called Christmas but instead called Saturnalia. Saturnalia was an ancient Roman holiday to worship their sun god, and later, as Christianity took over all of Rome, its name changed to Christmas and was about the Christian god named Jesus’s birthday. There is another way people think about how Christmas originated, and that is, of course, with a man called Santa Claus. Santa Claus, or Santa for short, was a person who decided on December 25th every year he would give gifts to his whole village, and this became a tradition, eventually evolving into December 25th being when everyone gives to everyone. Over the years Santa Claus has had many nicknames, like Saint Nick or Kris Kringle and many others.
So how did we go from basically a big birthday party to giving gifts to everyone you are related to or friends with? Well, when the real Santa died, his village wanted to continue this tradition, and when the villagers started to talk about it, it started to spread to the entire world. People started to like this holiday, and when companies saw this, they wanted to capitalize on it and sell as much Christmas apparel as possible. I guarantee you if you go on Amazon and search Christmas and scroll far enough down, you will find the weirdest thing possible related to Christmas. Some of these things would be the weirdest items ever, like a chair with reindeer antlers on it. Almost every single thing you can create, someone has made it but made it Christmas-themed.
One thing that can be made into something related to Christmas is movies. There have been countless Christmas movies created; some people wait all year to watch them, and then they watch them for hours. One movie, “A Christmas Story,” has a TV channel where it plays all Christmas long.
Another thing that can be easily transformed into a Christmas item is snacks and drinks. Things like eggnog are considered to be a Christmas drink and only get sold once a year, no matter how good it tastes. Even things that are not considered Christmas food brands tend to make their food or drink into a Christmas-themed food item. Take Oreos, for example. They make holiday-themed Oreos by changing the color almost every holiday, and Christmas is no exception.
Many people enjoy Christmas time, and I was curious how much people enjoyed it, so I asked some people what they thought of it. Jojo Normandin, when asked on a scale from 1-10 how much he liked Christmas, responded by saying ten out of 10. I asked Owen Johnson how they would rate the holiday, to which he responded with another ten out of ten. This makes sense since Christmas is statistically the happiest holiday of the year.
However, whether you celebrate Christmas or not, you most likely have acknowledged it as a fun and happy holiday. According to Bureau Works, more than two billion people across 160 countries celebrate Christmas. That’s not even including other types of Christmas, like Orthodox Christmas or Coptic Christmas, along with others.

So interesting! I’ve never heard of Saturnalia!
