In this decade, almost all are usually listening to music or podcasts. The top two mainly used apps are Apple Music and Spotify. Now, you may start to wonder which one is better. According to Apple.com, Apple Music was created on June 8th, 2015. According to Newsroom.Spotify.com, Spotify was founded in 2006. So in the early days, most people used Spotify until Apple Music came to the rise.
About The Apps-
According to Cosmopolitan.com, this app has different pros and cons. Pros are that it is already downloaded onto your phone so there is no storage being used, and there is shareplay and additionally exclusive content from many artists. However, with pros, there can also be many cons. Some cons of Apple Music are that you have to use a different app to get access to podcasts there is no free version of the app and you have to pay the fee for the app. The fees for that app may depend on what version you have. For a student plan, it starts at $5.99 a month, for an individual plan it starts at $10.99 a month, for a family plan that holds up to 6 people, it starts at $16.99 a month and then lastly there is a plan for the Apple One Bundle which offers multiple subscriptions including Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and iCloud+ all for $19.95 a month. A fellow Apple Music user, Oakmont sophomore, Jack Bennett states “I think Apple Music is better because it is cheaper and more organized.”
According to Cosmopolitan.com, there are different pros and cons to this app as well. Some pros to Spotify are that there is a free version available, and everything including music, podcasts, and even audiobooks is accessible in one app. The cons are that it is too cluttered, the lyrics aren’t accessible on all songs and lastly, the shuffle of some of the songs is repetitive most of the time. The fees for that app are rather similar to those of Apple Music. Spotify monthly plans for students start at $5.99 a month but with your first purchase it is free for three months and it includes a free three-month subscription to Hulu, similar to that the individual plan is $11.99 a month with the first three months being free but sadly does not include a free Hulu subscription, they also offer a duo premium plan that combines two Spotify accounts for $12.99 a month and then lastly they offer a family premium plan that holds up to 6 people for $19.99 a month. A fellow Spotify user, Oakmont senior, Addi Roy states “I like Spotify more because of the free option it offers.”
A Personal Outlook On The App Rivalry-
From a personal point of view, I would rather Spotify only because of the free option and I have been using Spotify for a while, although I would be open to trying Apple Music because it does offer a lot more with the Apple One Bundle for the same price of a family premium plan on Spotify.
