The Oakmont Girls Basketball team is off to an undefeated record of 8-0. After success at other schools, Coach Christina Seabury has taken on the role of coaching Oakmont this year, and the work has paid off for this undefeated team. Last year, the team was 6-14, so this comeback is huge for this Oakmont team moving forward. So what has led to this sudden success in our Oakmont team?
As mentioned, Coach Seabury has clearly been a huge contributing factor to the team’s success. Seabury had a successful run at Nashoba for eight years. In fact, Nashoba was always the team to beat for the Oakmont Girls Basketball team. Now that Seabury has brought her talents here, our Oakmont team has been quite successful. Another contributing factor has been the help of their captains. Seniors Amaya Leblanc, Alison Hazel, Kyra Pappas, and Molly Horgan are the captains of this year’s team. These girls have done a great job at leading their team on and off the court. You can always see one of them hyping the bench up as well as directing their team on the court. This leads to another key point in their success: their defense.
When it comes to running plays, you can rely on this Oakmont team to execute. These girls run plays that are both simple and effective. With the help of their top scorers like Amaya Leblanc, Olivia Martin, Jada Leblanc, and Lucie Horgan, this team has been able to get bucket after bucket. Their defense though, has been key to their team’s success. In past games, they have switched their defenses up throughout the game. All of the girls have a talent for quick hands and tough defense. Many of their defensive stops have been quick and hard to get by. They do an amazing job at talking it up on the floor. Without communication on defense, any team could get by them. But that’s not the case for this Oakmont team.
Whether basketball is your favorite sport or not, I’d suggest you come take a look at our Oakmont Girls Basketball team. They have had huge successes, the one thing that they need is your support.
