Norman F***ing Rockwell (NFR)
Released on August 30, 2019, Norman F***ing Rockwell features songs such as Doin’ Time, Cinnamon Girl, and The Greatest. When you listen to the album in its entirety, you will find softer songs that you can play in the car while the sun is setting. While listening to songs in the album, you’ll notice topics about America and men in various songs. Elise Boucher tells us her favorite song in the album and why: “How to Disappear, the storytelling and build up is great, and you can hear the emotion.” If you ever get a chance to look at the album cover you’ll see a woman (Lana Del Rey) and a man (Duke Nicholson) on a sailboat with an American flag in the background, this could be referencing the themes of America in the album.
Chemtrails Over The Country Club
When released Chemtrails Over The Country Club skyrocketed to the top of Billboard’s Top Album Sales as soon as it debuted. One of the more popular songs on the album, Chemtrails over the Country Club, has lyrics containing lots of imagery: “Drag racing my little red sports car,” and “We laugh about nothing as the summer gets cool,” painting an image for the listener. Abigail Kahehlert was asked what her favorite song from this album was and why. She said that her favorite song was Narwal because “most of her songs have deeper & sad messages but this one is lighter and like optimistic.”
Blue Banisters
On October 22, 2021, Lana Del Rey released the album Blue Banisters under the genre pop & jazz. Like many of her albums, the meaning of it can be taken and tweaked in different ways. The meaning of the album could be about growing, finding happiness, or about love. In the song Thunder, she sings about a love that is not going well and is coming to an end. The lyrics read, “If hello means goodbye then, honey, better walk away,” and “You roll like thunder when you come crashin’ in, town ain’t been the same since you left with all your friends.” In Thunder, there are more happy tones and the instrumental is more upbeat. On the other hand, the song Dealer has sadder tones and you can hear it in her voice. Dealer could be interpreted as she’s talking to someone who keeps taking stuff from her and won’t give it back. The lyrics suggest, “I don’t want to give you nothing, ‘Cause you never give me nothing back.”
Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd
Her most recent work and definitely one of the longer title names was released on March 24, 2023. Her album and songs were nominated a total of 5 times under the categories: Best Alternative Music Album, Song Of The Year, Best Alternative Music Performance, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Album Of The Year at the 66th annual Grammys. In the song Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, which is also the title song, she keeps repeating the lyrics “When’s it gonna be my turn?” and “There’s a tunnel under Ocean Boulevard.” These lyrics portray a feeling of not wanting to be forgotten and to be known. Over the album, there are slower and faster instrumentals, like many of her albums, displaying different themes.
