Trump won the youth vote by 30 percent in the 2025 Presidential election. With Donald Trump winning the presidency it’s not like any other election like before. Now that Trump won, some people are even leaving the country because they don’t feel safe and don’t feel that he will do a good job in office.
After a long discussion with Oakmont history teacher Mr. James Ethier, we talked about how the nation needs to come together very soon. If our nation is not working together, and we are always fighting and arguing, we will never be strong enough to hold our country together.
We need to stop voter suppression in this country. This is when the country is always trying to change people’s vote and argue about each other’s vote we will agree. People need to vote and not hold anything against voters of the other party. The country as a whole needs to respect peoples’ beliefs and opinions.
Oakmont freshman Donavon O’Shaughnessy stated, “When people vote, I understand it is a sensitive topic, but people need to keep their opinion to themselves, so there can be less arguing in the country.”People voted for trump because he promised the us citesins a good economy.
Economy
From day one Trump has promised us a good economy and good egg prices. That doesn’t seem to be working in his first 30 days.
Why ?
According to CBS News, Donald Trump has been urging to fix the egg prices in the United States. Yet The egg prices have gone higher than ever with Trump in office. In February of 2024 under Joe Biden as President our eggs cost on average 2.52 dollars per dozen. Now, with Trump in office, the price of eggs has almost doubled, as a dozen eggs cost $4.15 per dozen.
Freshman ‘Mikey Belcher said, ”I believe everything should stay balanced and stuff like eggs shouldn’t be rising like they are right now. We need to keep everything cheap and affordable for people’’
Another Oakmont freshman, Donovan O’Shaughnessy said, “I feel like it’s definitely making my mother more angry because she has less money in her pocket, so it’s making me more angry.”
Tariffs
Donald Trump has said numerous times he will put tariffs on incoming goods to the country. Countries like Canada or Mexico even Colombia. Now, how do people like the middle class and the lower class feel about the upcoming tariffs?
According to the International trade administration, tariffs will make the goods rise to crazy prices in this country. All foreign goods will be almost doubled in price so for the lower class and middle class this will be much harder to live.
Why does Trump want to enforce tariffs?
According to Time Magazine “Trump signed orders imposing 25% tariffs on imports from Canada” Trump is in favor of tariffs because he believes that it will boost American manufacturing and end what he thinks are unfair trade practices. He also states that others tax us, so we should be implementing tariffs on them.
Another worry for many citizens is his treatment of others with color.
In a rally in 2024, when he was running against Kamala Harris, he had a comedian come up on stage to make people laugh, but a lot of people weren’t laughing – they were offended. Tony Hinchcliffe, on one of Trump’s rallies, said, “There is a floating island of garbage I think it’s called Puerto Rico.” When people heard that, some laughed, some were very offended. Bad Bunny, once a endorser of Donald Trump, switched his endorsement and didn’t vote for Trump because of this comment.
What is the pulse?
You have Observed with a focus on illegal immigration under President Trump’s recent leadership? Erin Bergin Oakmont’s history teacher said, “There are a lot of people that are very nervous about it. The teacher community is freaking out. They are worried if their kid will be in school, or if they’re too nervous to focus because they’re scared they could be taken.”
How are people responding to Trump’s New immigration policies?
IMMIGRATION
According to CNN News, President Trump, This time around promised to get rid of all of the illegal immigrants for his second term. That’s what he is doing he has gotten rid of thousands and thousands of immigrants. He is trying to get rid of illegals with a criminal record but he is also getting rid of good illegals immigrants.
Oakmont sophomore Mikey Hopkins” I believe for the right people it is not okay if there criminals I have no problem with it But if they are working and not harming anyone then it’s not OK to deport them”
Oakmont freshmen Jackson LeSage like the new immigration policies because we can’t have any illegals around the country because it’s dangerous to have them here making money under the table.
