The cheerleaders on varsity have worked extremely hard this season, so well, that they progressed to regionals.
The cheerleaders are bouncing back quickly to what the team once was, winning 5 trophies combined with both teams just this season alone. Ever since the cheer team got started back up with comps in the 2022-2023 winter season, they have won fifteen trophies, JV and varsity combined. They also have gone to regionals four times and states once in that span.
Ms. Erin Bergin, Oakmont Cheer Coach, is excited to say she believes the team will do well in the March 9th States and she is confident as they have worked really hard.
Sophomores Macie Shattuck and Nadalee Madhere shared how they felt excited and grateful for the opportunity to go to regionals.
Despite the team dealing with injuries and other adversity, which has led to routines quickly changing, new stunts, and practicing for hours on end, they still feel more determined, Madhere pointed out.
Regionals is an impressive accomplishment, but just as importantly, the team bonded tremendously and learned more and more about each other’s personality at practice. Speaking of bonding, on game days, the cheerleaders would have to stay at the school till 8 pm, during which they would only get one break to get ready for a game and munch on pizza, for the night.
This was just one small contribution in making the “team” a “family”. The girls have become extremely close which has led to them having such a good season.
No matter the outcome of States, the cheerleaders deserve recognition for their extraordinary growth and the tremendous effort that has been made to get them to where they are today.
After all the hard work that was put into the comp routine last Sunday, the team placed 3rd, scoring a 70.2, securing a spot at States this Sunday. The team is grateful for the opportunities they have gotten this season – especially this weekend.
