March 5th-7th, Oakmont Regional High School’s Student Council attended the annual Massachusetts Association of Student Council conference in Hyannis. This conference consisted of workshops, keynote speakers, lip-sync competitions, and over one thousand StuCo students in Massachusetts with OVER THE TOP energy.
StuCo had to show up at 6:45 in the morning on March 5th, 2025. All of our suitcases and duffel bags were spread out on the floor in the gym lobby. We immediately practiced our lip-sync dance to prepare for the competition later that day. We were DETERMINED to win. After 10-15 minutes, we loaded our luggage on the bus and headed off to Hyannis (with a pit-stop at Dunkin’s and the mall OF COURSE)
After 2.5 hours, we arrived in Hyannis at the hotel where we were staying. We were greeted with loud music and tons of sparkling personalities from all over the state. We settled in our rooms, wandered around the hotel, swam in the pool, and met so many other kids from other schools. One of MY favorite things about the MASC conference is seeing other kids you have met from other Student Council conferences and catching up with them.

The first day was filled with sessions, meetings, a workshop, a game show, karaoke, and Oakmont’s favorite part – the lip-sync competition. Oakmont’s theme in the lip-sync battle was based on the movie series, Pitch Perfect. Rachel O’Neil, Sofi Davidson, Rylan Ross, Chloe Kruse, and Ryan Rollo helped create the lip-sync dance.
The stakes were high. We had been on the podium for the past two years, but we hadn’t taken home gold. This year, we gave it our all and got first place! It was truly incredible. So many other schools gave us the best compliments and praises. The countless practices paid off.
Student Council President, Rachel O’Neil, shared her favorite part of the whole conference, “My favorite part was winning the lip sync because we destroyed the other schools.”

On day two, we had many more sessions, three more workshops, candidate speeches for the next state board election, and another keynote speaker, Cara Filler. She shared her story with the state and inspired many.
This night was the banquet. Students dressed up formally, ate some good food, and watched the award ceremony.
After that fun was the dance. The dance was definitely a key highlight of the trip for many of us. The intensity, loudness, and flashing lights added to the experience. Many StuCo kids describe this dance as if Homecoming had digested 10 pints of sugar. It was certainly one of my favorite parts.
Day three was a bittersweet day for many. Election results were announced, and we were getting ready to leave. This trip, the first for lots, held many memories that will stick with us.

Sofi Davidson, Oakmont Student Council Public Relations Officer, shared her thoughts, “My favorite part about MASC was making bonds with new people and getting closer with my council members. I was able to get closer with some people that I never imagined myself being close with because of MASC.”
She continued to speak about her own personal growth, saying, “This year I’m an upperclassman and years before I was a lower class, so I was more afraid to go and talk to people and put myself out there. This year, I really opened up and talked to new people and just let myself have fun.”
I asked sophomore Chloe Kruse if the conference had lived up to her expectations, “It was very inclusive and very welcoming, it did live up to my expectations of having a lit time.”
