A glimpse into a world that seems almost prehistoric, into a world that looks untouched by humans and ruled only by the sun. The sun is setting on a night in Costa Rica, nearby a dormant volcano and endless jungle. On the shores of Hawaii, where washed debris up on Poipu Bay should only be made from rocks and shells instead has an added touch of plastics. The perfect blue ocean, a ligament to the beach, is forced to hold and choke on inorganic material that humans force-fed. The materials either travel large distances to make it to the shores, or they tumble around in the currents, eroding to be smaller and smaller, making themselves a part of the ocean. They lay on the shores of beaches everywhere, where people walk, swim, and play. Now, plastic has made a visible tie with the water and waves, and adds a disturbing pop of color to Hawaii’s beaches.

A treacherous and thrashing ocean amidst strong wind and small bullets of raindrops. The waves came crashing against the rocks at a stop on the road to Hana, a route of winding road that ends at a small town in Hawaii. Millions of years of evolution, erosion, volcanic activity, and tectonic forces etch themselves into the desert. As a result, these large rocky mountains emerged from Joshua Tree National Park in California. Colossal granite pillars stretch to reach the blue sky, and boulders seem to sit on top of each other after indefinite years of erosion. This is only a glimpse of the endless span of mountain ranges that make up Joshua Tree and is a small keyhole-look at the mighty changes and formations that occur on our planet, Earth.
