This past Saturday, April 5, Oakmont’s Winter Percussion traveled to Dartmouth High School to compete in the final competition of their season. They have worked incredibly hard over the past five months to put together an impressive final product of the show they call The Haunted Palace.
This show is based on the poem by Edgar Allan Poe, which later became known as “The Fall of the House of Usher.” It follows the story of a king who once lived in a thriving palace that falls into chaos and madness. The palace symbolizes the king’s mind that slowly becomes victim to insanity. In Oakmont’s rendition, the king was played by Junior Gavin Stone. The rest of the drumline and front ensemble played civilians in the kingdom, but later put on masks and took down their capes to resemble the “demons” that plague the king’s mind.
The Winter Percussion competed in the Percussion Marching Scholastic Regional A Division. They were one out of nine groups and secured third place with a score of 91.4. This was huge for Oakmont because they received a SEVEN-POINT JUMP from their last competition! Another huge accomplishment was that Senior Abigail Cennoti received a scholarship from NESBA! This was highly deserved, seeing as she is one of the Drum Majors for the fall Marching Band and does so much for our music program. A huge congratulations to the Oakmont Winter Percussion on their amazing season! Great job, Spartans!
