May 7th, National Honor Society Adviser Mrs. Paula Stefanakos greeted and addressed the current NHS members and participants in the NHS board as we approached the end of the school year.
Congratulations to the NHS members who were recognized at last night’s annual service Awards dinner. Many thanks to the Lions club members who exemplify service in our community and served the dinner, and thanks to Mrs. Stefanakos for arranging the event.
This service dinner allows a few outstanding NHS members to be recognized for their hard work throughout the year in making our community a better place. 4 major awards were given out, with certificates, for students who displayed above-and-beyond qualities. These four awards were Service to Leadership, Scholarship, Character, and the Outstanding Service Award.
To make the night even better, NHS members Brian Sandjong, Keilana Carbonneau, Ryan Rollo, and Samantha Kender volunteered to each give a speech on one of the four pillars: Leadership, Scholarship, Character, and Service. Thank you for your contribution to the night!
Senior Tyler Martin was awarded for his Service to Leadership, which emphasizes taking initiative, problem-solving, and motivating others. Martin shows qualities of leadership through his work on the Environmental Committee as Co-Chair and helping others find their place in the NHS.
Senior Gianna Caforio was recognized for her Service to Scholarship, which highlights commitment to learning and academic excellence. Caforia is the Secretary for the NHS and shows exceptional dedication, hard work, and beneficial skills.
Junior Cam Scerbo was presented with the Service to Character, which focuses on the importance of integrity, strong morals, and honesty. Although this is Scerbo’s first year being a part of NHS, he has already made an incredible impact on our school and community. Scerbo is a kind and welcoming person who is not afraid to help anyone who needs it.
Finally, Senior Sarah Smith was awarded the Outstanding Service Award, which recognizes a student leader who excels in all of the pillars of NHS (Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service). Smith runs the NHS social media account, promotes helping make our towns a better place, and so much more! The best part is that Smith does it all with a positive and friendly energy.
Be sure to congratulate and THANK them for being great role models.
