For the fourth time in Oakmont’s history, the Jazz has received Gold at their MAJE States. Because of their excellence at States, they were given the opportunity to perform at the Boston Hatch Memorial Shell on Sunday, May 4th. This outdoor performance hall is home to the Boston Pops annual 4th of July show.
Earlier that day, the musicians were also given a private tour of the Orpheum Theatre, thanks to one of their Marching band staff, Harry Jettie. They were allowed to explore the stage, green rooms, and even the upstairs “dungeon-like” rooms. Then, they headed over to the performance venue and watched other Gold medal bands perform until it was their turn. On stage, they performed two out of their three competition pieces, “Moten Swing” and “Summertime.”
After their performance, they all headed over to Olive Garden and celebrated their amazing achievement, and had some delicious food. Congratulations to the Oakmont Jazz band on their amazing accomplishments!
