I recently had the opportunity to see “Waitress: The Musical” at Beverly’s North Shore Music Theater, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The energy in the theater was magical from the very beginning. The story follows Jenna, a talented pie-maker who dreams of a better life while navigating love, friendship, and her ambitions.
This was my first visit to the North Shore theater, and one aspect that stood out to me was the round theater design, which is definitely unique. The circular layout provided an interesting perspective for each audience member. At times, you might not see one actor’s face, but you could still enjoy the performances of others. The cast did an excellent job ensuring there was always something engaging to watch, no matter your viewpoint!
The performances were truly remarkable. The lead, played by Christine Dwyer, added significant depth to Jenna’s character, beautifully portraying her struggles and joys. The supporting cast also shined, each bringing their own charm and humor, particularly during the musical numbers. Speaking of which, the music was a highlight for me—catchy and heartfelt, it perfectly complemented the story. If I had to pick a favorite character, it would be the lovable oddball customer at Joe’s Pie Diner, Ogie, played by Courter Simmons. He consistently made me laugh, especially during his song “Never Getting Rid of Me.”
The set design was impressive as well, creating a cozy diner atmosphere that truly immersed you in Jenna’s world. It felt warm and inviting, almost as if you were part of the story.
Overall, I would highly recommend “Waitress” to anyone looking for a feel-good night out. The blend of humor, poignant moments, and fantastic music makes it a show worth seeing. If you have the chance to catch it on the North Shore, I encourage you to go for it!
