Since the beginning of the school year, the drama club has been working to put on a show for the school and compete in a grade-level competition. This year is significant, as it marks the last year of interclass plays. Next year, the drama department plans to perform a straight play in the fall.
Unfortunately, during this concluding year of interclass, the freshman class of 2029 is unable to perform, as their numbers were too small.
The sophomore class of 2028, directed by Teagan Fraticelli, is performing a shortened version of the play Oz. The play is about a girl, grieving from her sister’s death, journeying through a world that resembles Oz from The Wizard of Oz. However, the Yellow Brick Road has been sold to foreign investors after a financial meltdown, the Tin Man embracing his numbness, the Lion acting as a paranoid sociopath, and the Scarecrow being oblivious to it all. The show was originally 50 minutes long, so the class has been working on cutting it down to fit the Interclass time frame. Even with the cuts, the sophomores feel confident this year, feeling that their show will be entertaining to everyone.
Cecelia Maki Morales is directing the junior class of 2027’s show, Nothing Says I Love You Like Bad Poetry. In this show, a boy tries to woo a young girl, but she rejects all his advances, stating she will only be satisfied if he writes her a poem. The boy, knowing nothing of writing poems, gains help from a football player who believes his tackles are poetic, and a three-headed goth creature. The boy ends up entering a slam poetry contest and wonders whether he’ll finally be able to write the poem that wins the girl, or if he will be rejected yet again.
The senior class of 2026 has multiple directors collaborating this year. Julia Feeley is in charge of blocking, and Lily Harris and Elle Hill are taking charge of costumes and set. This year, the seniors will be performing Princess Party Smackdown. It takes place in a bratty seven-year-old’s backyard where a group of performers are hired to entertain Olivia and her hyperactive friend for her birthday. However, Olivia’s wild demands lead to improved scenes that end in injuries, animal sacrifice, and a potential alien takeover.
These students have been working hard since the beginning of the school year. Come down to see these shows on November 21st and 22nd!
