The New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Trainer is New Balance’s latest evolution of the SuperComp series. This is a proper running shoe for mid- to long-distance running and aims to improve upon earlier iterations.
This shoe costs $180, which is a lot for a running shoe; however, its components help make up for this. Inside, it contains a plate constructed of carbon, which completely changes how the shoe feels and performs.
Compared to other running shoes that do not have this feature, these shoes are significantly stiffer, and the cushioning and rotation in the front/middle are much more effective. It also provides a wider front area, which makes it comfortable for both standard and wide feet.
Additionally, the cushioning is perfect in the middle to front and has just the right stiffness for comfort. These shoes are also good for regular training runs and workouts, as these work best at faster speeds and higher stress loads. The plate also makes standing starts easier using rebound and stiffness.
However, there are some disadvantages to this shoe. First, when trail running, the gap at the bottom of the carbon plate will collect rocks, which can cause frequent stops mid-run to remove them.
Additionally, the cushioning on the heel is too soft, so it isn’t great for heel striking. Finally, the stiffness of this shoe makes recovery runs and slower paces clumsier, but it is manageable over long distances.
The New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Trainer V3 is an amazing running shoe for long distances and moderate-speed runners, giving them the ability to maximize the flex and rebound of this shoe.
