- New ice is stronger than old ice
- Ice doesn’t freeze uniformly
- Ice formed over flowing water and currents is often more dangerous
- If you fall in don’t take off your clothing trapped air can provide warmth and help you float
- Tell someone your plans before going out on ice

| 5” | Snowmobiles and ATVs are ok |
| 8”-12” | Car or small pickup truck is ok |
| 12”-15” | Medium size truck |
