Gigi’s Top 5 Christmas Songs
1. Last Christmas by Wham!
This song is definitely my favorite to play during the holidays. It was released in 1986 by the British band Wham!. It was nominated for the Brit Award for British Video of the Year and Awit Award for Best Vocal Arrangement. It reached No. 1 in the UK singles chart 36 years after it was released, and paid tribute to the late song’s writer George Michael.
2. Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! By Dean Martin
This song is a classic. It was sung and recorded by many famous singers such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jessica Simpson, and Michael Buble. My favorite, however, is the Dean Martin version. It was originally published in 1945 by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn. Interestingly, they wrote this song during a heat wave in California, imagining cooler conditions.
3. Sleigh Ride by Ella Fitzgerald
Featured in the popular Christmas movie Elf, Sleigh Ride is a great holiday classic. This song was also recorded by many popular artists such as The Ronettes, Gwen Stefani, and Mariah Carey. It was originally composed by Leroy Anderson, who coincidentally, also wrote this song during a heat wave in July, 1946. The lyrics, by Mitchell Parish, talk about fun wintertime activities that can get anyone in the holiday spirit.
4. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town by The Jackson 5
Another classic is Santa Claus is Coming To Town. It is an upbeat Christmas song that immediately puts me in a good mood. It was recorded by numerous artists and achieved many places on multiple charts and billboards. The Jackson 5 included this song in their best-selling album, Jackson 5 Christmas Album.
5. Jingle Bells by Frank Sinatra
A song that everyone can recognize is Jingle Bells by Frank Sinatra. This song was featured in his album Christmas Songs by Frank Sinatra. This album was released in 1948. It can be heard in the shows The Good Doctor and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Jingle Bells is cheerful and fun to listen to during the holiday season.
