Again?

Again?

Bridgett Briggs

Every single year, it’s the same thing. Grandma drinks too much champagne and then tells the youngsters about all of the guys she hooked up with. Grandpa had to stop her and make her go to bed. My cousins do their usual prank to my uncle and it always ends with my uncle having pie in his face. That would make my aunt clean up my uncle which would take forever since they would kiss every ten seconds. Of course, my brother brings his girlfriend except it’s always a new one and it would be “the one” that he would marry. My sister, however, is single and likes it that way because she is a workaholic. Both my parents have been trying for years to get my sister to date a guy. They eventually gave up and now targeted me. Currently, I’m trying to get away from my parents and the guy that they brought with them. Apparently, this guy is the son of my dad’s work colleague who has been single since July. Not only that, he and I talked and he’s in a secret relationship so it’s really awkward. The only way I could escape is the balcony, it may be cold out but it’s better than being inside right now. It was a crisp cold winter and I could see my breath fade away every time I breathed. Hugging the blanket even tighter against me, I looked up at the twinkling stars and made a wish. The same wish I’ve made every year.
