Is PRIME good, or is it just Logan Paul: PRIME vs Gatorade

By Sophie Newell

Sports drinks have become a normal thing to see in your day-to-day life. But most can agree that Gatorade is a good way to replenish your electrolytes while having something tasty to drink.

Invented at the University of Florida, Gatorade instantly became one of the most popular sports drinks, paving the way for different brands like Vitamin Water or Powerade.

However, there is a new drink on the market. The increasingly popular PRIME, a line of sports and energy drinks released by Logan Paul and KSI.

Logan Paul originally came into the light of social media on the previously popular platform called Vine. His fame then grew to YouTube even appearing in popular movies like The Thinning and having appearances on The Disney channel.

KSI came to fame by starting to make gaming videos on YouTube then moving into the music industry. After winning a fight Via knockout against Joe Weller KSI called out Logan and Jake paul saying, “If any YouTuber wants it, you can come get it,” and, “Jake Paul, Logan Paul, any of the Pauls, I don’t care.”

Although the originally scheduled fight was between Jake, it was then moved to Logan containing a two-fight contract. The build-up to the fight was a large one with a growing feud between the two.

Even though KSI found the fight as more of a way to boost his career the two did have their run-ins with press conferences and even writing diss-tracks about each other.

However, that was the very foundation of the popularity of PRIME. Their use of each other and their popularity has given them the stepping stones they have needed to grow their empire.

But which is better, PRIME or Gatorade? It depends on how you look at that, when looking for a cost effective drink Gatorade is your best option as PRIME has been boosted in prices by resellers and stores.

However when looking at the ingredients, PRIME, could be a better choice, as it has less alarming ingredients, with no added sugar and 10% coconut milk: while Gatorade is full of added sugars.

But you have to be careful which kind of PRIME you are buying. With there being an energy drink and a hydration drink, the energy version has 200 mg. of caffeine.

The Prime website states, “PRIME Energy is not recommended for children under the age of 18, women who are pregnant or nursing, or individuals who are sensitive to caffeine.“

Freshman at Oakmont Regional High School Mikaela Groncki, was told the warning labels of PRIME energy without being told the brand and asked if she would drink it, she said, “No, because if it’s bad for your health then why would you drink it. Not to mention I’m not eighteen.”

After being told that it was PRIME she was surprised, saying that if she saw a bottle of PRIME she wouldn’t even think of the dangers it could hold.

However with the growing popularity of PRIME and the hype involving the people behind one of the largest demographics is America’s teens, which due to the worries about the amount of caffeine and misinformation is a concerning issue.

Overlook Middle School has recently sent an email home to families saying, “there have been some young business entrepreneurs who have been selling the popular “PRIME” drinks,” and saying, “Students are not authorized nor allowed to sell anything at school. Moreover, these drinks are not allowed.”

When asked why he drank and bought so much PRIME, a sophomore at Oakmont, Kaden Aubin, responded, “I don’t know, it just tastes sweeter, and I think it is better for you.” Then after being asked which is better, Gatorade and PRIME Aubin said “ I don’t know it’s just kind of different. It’s like asking which is better: an apple or a banana, they are two different things.”

Although PRIME is a hot new brand on the market, with a vivacious back story, it isn’t necessarily the best option. Maybe we should just stick to the classics.
