Monday, Apr 10, 2023  Oakmont students went to a Women in Sports Leadership Summit at Cushing Academy.  With 12 other schools in attendance, the conference consisted of workshops, a keynote presentation, lunch and a general closing session from 9:00-2:00. Addison Collette, Rachel Simkewicz, Kyra Pappas, and myself attended a “ Mind Over Matter” workshop and “Psychology Behind Injury” workshop.

The first workshop talked about how being mindful or being in the present moment will improve physical and mental performance. The 4 of us took out of the workshop different ways we can start practice mindfully and different ways to return our minds when they drift during sports. The second workshop we attended gave us skills and tips for when another player is injured or when you are a leader on the team and are injured.

After we attended the keynote presentation, spoken by the first female Harvard College Athletic Director and graduate of Oakmont Erin McDermott.  After the keynote, we went to lunch and then our 3rd and final workshop of the day. Addie went to “ the five F’s of leadership” and Rachel, Kyra ,and I went to “ the role of team captain”. Within the captain workshop we learned how to compensate and change the attitudes of “bad apples” on our team.

After the last workshop we went to the closing ceremony and headed back to Oakmont.
