OEA hosts Earth Week
As Earth Week rolled around, the dates were April 14 through the 22. Unfortunately for us, that was during Staycation as April Break became known as! So OEA pushed Earth Week back a week in order to include the school on the theme days and bake sales!
Over the course of the week, Monday was blackout to raise awareness for pollution, Tuesday was rainbow clothing to raise awareness for flowers and pollination, Wednesday was yellow for global warming awareness, Thursday was green for general environmental awareness, and last but not least, Friday was whiteout for bleached coral awareness. Each of these days was precisely thought over about how the theme colors of each day would work and to ensure the most people could participate. Each day was themed with an important environmental issue that is framing the world today and was matched with its respective color. Ideas came and went about those themes, new ideas were sprung the week before, ideas for next year at the meeting after.
The bake sale was also an incredible success! The first bake sale held by OEA, it raised over $150 to be donated to wildlife foundations and also much-needed items for the club. The Earth cookies made by Mr. Kostich himself seemed to be most popular among the students, and each item on the menu was baked with Earth Week in mind, tying it somehow to environmental awareness!
Though not as many people as OEA had hoped participated in the theme days, everybody loved the bake sale and had fun with the free bracelets OEA provided with each purchase. OEA hopes to have more successful bake sales and theme days in the future – hoping to also gain new members!
They had a wonderful time with the bake sale and Earth Week and hope the school also had fun participating!
