The champions found a way…Oakmont Spartans win Division 3 State Championship game in 12 innings (Link to pictures)
The Oakmont Spartans played at Worcester’s Polar Park this past Friday to compete for the state title. Seeded fourth in the state, Oakmont was facing the number two-seeded Medfield. Right off the bat, the game was an exciting one. Oakmont trailed 1-0 after one and had fans on the edge of their seats in the fourth trailing 3-1. They preserved though, tying it up in what was supposed to be the final inning, bringing it to extras. Oakmont fans chanted and cheered, giving the team encouragement through the long-lasting game. The game continued for five more innings! Finally, in the top of the 12th inning as it started to rain, Oakmont’s Caleb Allen scored the go-ahead run and Isaih Smith gained another. Spartan pitcher Ben Forbes held off Medfield batters in the bottom of the inning to win the state title for Oakmont. It is the first time in Oakmont’s history that the baseball team has won the state title and the Oakmont fans indeed showed their excitement!
