Annual District Wide Band Night

Annual+District+Wide+Band+Night

This past Friday, October 27th, was the Oakmont Overlook Marching Spartan’s most important night of the year: Band Night! Every year the marching band invites musicians from Briggs, Westminster Elementary, Overlook, and anyone else with an interest in the program to come and perform with them during halftime at the football game. This night is essential to the program’s future and is one of the biggest reasons students join. Plus, this year’s turnout was huge!

The kids first arrived while the band rehearsed and got to see some reps of the show. Then, everyone separated into their sections, or instruments, and got to know one another. The Spartans taught the kids the commands they use as well as playing the pieces together. Once everyone was familiar, all of the musicians formed a big arc and played through the pieces that they prepared: Power Rock, Freeze Frame, and the B Flat Song

After all of the pieces sounded perfect, everyone was dismissed to go get pizza! This is always a great opportunity for the Marching Spartans to get closer and form friendships with the kids. When they all finished, the marching band got into uniform, performed pre-game, and watched the first half of the game with the kids. At halftime, the band performed their show, “A Grimm Tale,” and then played the pieces that they practiced with the kids for everyone to see. Even North Middlesex’s head football coach thought it was great! Everyone sounded amazing and the Marching Spartans can’t wait to do it again next year!
