Struggles of waking up early

“Just five more minutes,” you say while hitting your snooze button for the second time. It’s time to get up for school, but you can’t. Why is it so difficult to wake up early? This can be due to an irregular sleep schedule or bad sleeping habits. An average person gets around 6 to 7 hours of sleep each night. But, studies indicate that people need 8 to 10 hours of sleep. So, is that what is preventing you from waking up early?

Why is it so challenging to wake up? Whether you hate mornings or what time you go to bed. It may be due to having an irregular sleep schedule. Most Americans sleep an average of  7 hours or more of sleep each night. Nearly everyone goes to bed around 10:00 pm-12:00 am, and they wake up at 7:00 am on average. Most people spend time on their phones before going to bed, making it harder for them to go to sleep.

Reasons for not getting enough sleep can be caused by simply uncomfortable temperatures or even anxiety. Based on an article titled, “Why Is It Hard for Me to Wake Up Every Morning?”, by Karthik Kumar. The author wrote, ¨If you’re trying to cram all your sleep into 4-6 hours, it’s no wonder your body is telling you to stay in bed a bit longer.” By trying to get less than 7 hours of sleep each night, you won’t be capable of waking up early for school or work.

Another reason for not getting enough sleep can be due to afternoon naps. An article titled, ¨How to wake up early, even if you’re not a morning person”, by Kavitha George, Suggests, “Naps are a great way to squeeze in some extra shut-eye… Try to keep naps under an hour and toward the middle of the day or earlier in the afternoon.” Napping too close to the time you go to bed can make it difficult to fall asleep.

For some people, it may be easier to wake up early than others. A morning person will typically struggle to stay up late, but it’s easier for them to wake up in the mornings. In comparison, a night owl is the opposite. A night person struggles to wake up in the morning, but it is easier for them to stay up late. A morning person will tend to have less and less energy as the evening goes on.

Waking up early for something that you’re excited about is easy. You can easily get out of bed and avoid hitting the snooze button. But, waking up for school is different. When waking up for school, all you think about is that one test you barely studied for or the class presentation you didn’t practice. If you are worried, you won’t be able to get out of bed. To avoid this, think about something that excites you, like getting out of the house or maybe seeing your friends.

To make it easier to wake up early, stay consistent with your night routine. Although it is nice during the weekend to stay up late and wake up at a later time. Going to bed around the same time each night will make it easier for you to wake up in the morning. Having a relaxing evening can make it easier for you to wake up earlier the next day. Once you wake up, maybe turn on the lights or open the curtains. Bringing in light can make it less difficult to wake up.

We all have trouble waking up, especially for school. But, just remember to stay consistent with your sleep schedule and perhaps try some tips in this article. If you think about it, how many hours of sleep do you get each night?
