The blockbuster movie, Twisters, is a modern remake of the 1996 release of Twister, which was a relatively big hit for the time. They’re both thrilling movies and keep you invested, and interested in the characters’ development.
Lee Isaac Chung directed the movie Twisters and used his personal experiences with tornadoes to enhance the movie. Chung lived in Arkansas for a significant amount of time during his childhood, having had multiple encounters with monstrous winds.
According to the article, written by VanityFair, Chung stated, “When you see a tornado, where I grew up, you just run from it.”
Steven Spielberg is responsible for changing Twisters‘ ending. Spielberg, who produced the film, advised cutting a romantic moment at the end that some fans would’ve liked to see. He later explained in the People’s article about why he decided to cut the scene, “I think it stops the film feeling too clichéd, actually. I think there’s something really wonderful about it feeling like there’s a continuation. This isn’t the end of their story. They’re united by their shared passion for something.”
Even though some fans were upset, most agreed with Spielberg’s decision to cut the kiss scene. Some reviews online said that cutting the kiss scene was a smart play by Spielberg; even if the two main characters did not show any outward affection, the endearment between the two was palpable.
About the characters:
Glen Powell acted as Tyler Owens who was a thrill-chasing, impulsive, social media influencer, and meteorologist.
Daisy Edgar-Jones acted as Kate Carter who had a traumatic encounter with a tornado at the beginning of the movie. Which, later caused her to stop chasing tornadoes for a short while. After working as a weather reporter, Kate gets convinced by her old friend Javi, to help him use new technology to track down tornadoes.
Anthony Ramos acted as Javi, who was Kate’s old friend. Javi begins working for a mobile tornado radar company, Storm Par. Javi offers Kate a one-week position with his new team to test a new tornado scanning system using a phased-array radar.
Tyler Owens and Kate Carter were the two rival meteorologists who had sparking chemistry throughout the film.
Bill Paxton, who acted as Bill Harding in the original Twister movie, had his son, James Paxton, make an appearance in the new movie Twisters as an angry hotel guest.
About the acting:
British actor, Daisy Edgar-Jones, played the character of Kate who grew up in Oklahoma. However, her accent often switches from a heavy Southern accent to a normal American accent. Still, she portrays Kate’s character very well during the dramatic scenes.
Glen Powell acted fantastically, nailing the Southern accent and the outgoing, loud character of Tyler Owens.
The background characters were on point, and everyone really created a sense of fear throughout the movie during the tornadoes.
About the set:
Even though special effects had a major role in the production, the Oklahoma-set film brought the barren fields and stormy skies to life. Anyone living in the Sooner State would know how erratic the weather patterns are.
Three different locations were used to film the tornadoes which ravaged the towns in the movie. The different sites used were Crystal Springs, Stillwater, and El Reno for the three main tornado disasters.
Overall review and rating:
Overall, the movie was definitely a fun watch. There was a good mix of comedy and action, along with a romantic twist that really brought the plot together. Albeit, the film was a bit predictable, but unquestionably an amazingly produced film. The special effects were on point, and the acting brought the illusion of a real tornado together.
The soundtrack was a big hit with fans. The song “Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma” was written by Luke Combs specifically for the movie Twisters. The background music during the action-packed moments was on point and added more suspense and drama to the movie.
I would recommend watching this movie if you are in the mood for an exhilarating, thrill-chasing adventure with a little bit of a romantic twist!
Bloopers:
- Kate was in Tyler’s truck as it rolled several times, being crushed when she emerged. But, that same truck was fine and functional at the end of the movie.
- When Kate drove Lion away, the passenger tail light was broken but intermittently lit up during aerial shots.
- When Kate and Javi are placing the portable radar unit and the tornado turns toward them, Kate’s goggles blow off her face into the wind. But, when she jumps back into the SUV with Javi to drive away, they are back on her face.
