On Monday, December 22, the Oakmont Music Program held its annual Holiday Concert, where alumni are invited to perform two songs with the choir and band. This concert featured performances from Oakmont’s Concert Choir, Concert Band, Select Choir, and Jazz Band. At the beginning of December, the music department took a trip to Florida, where the Select Choir and Jazz Band had amazing performances in Disney Springs. They were able to showcase the pieces performed at this concert as well!
The concert was opened by the Concert Choir, who performed Deck the Hall with Beethoven, Bach, and Brahms!, Salsa Noel, Christmas…In About Three Minutes, Deck the Hall, and finally, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. Up next was the Select Choir, who performed the songs, Boogie Woogie Holiday, The First Noel, and Making Christmas. These students have been working hard all year to get ready for their Disney performance, and they sounded awesome up on the stage!
After the Select Choir performance, the Concert Choir students, as well as any chorus alumni members in the audience, were invited back onto the stage to perform White Winter Hymnal, and Carol of the Bells. There were about 60 performers, all alumni or current members of the Oakmont Choir.
Next up was the Jazz Band, who performed Dashing Through the Snow!, Christmas Island, Christmas is Here, and A Chili Pepper Christmas. These songs were also performed in Disney Springs for a big crowd that came out to support our musicians! The concert was concluded with the Concert band, who performed Santa’s Journey, Santa at the Symphony, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Finally, when they were done performing their pieces, all Oakmont instrumentalists and alumni members in the audience were again invited onto the stage to perform Sleigh Ride, and the piece that always completes the night: A Christmas Festival.
The Holiday Concert is definitely the favorite performance for many, and is the perfect send-off to our Holiday Break. Thank you to everyone who came out, and we’ll see you on Tuesday, March 3rd, for our Winter Concert!
