As Oakmont students and staff return to school after winter break, it becomes clearer that the break was necessary. With finals approaching and a new semester beginning, it brings a feeling of a reality check to many. The break was much-needed to reset minds to prepare for the shift in the school year.
Many students are encouraged to find studying habits and techniques for final assessments. Filling the mind with organization for setting new goals is crucial for preparation. Although the turning point in the school year can be stressful, the pressure can feel less heavy once you remember activities that were set in place over the holiday break.
Classrooms and hallways are busy again with many conversations about the highlights of winter break and the stress approaching. I interviewed a student to get her insight into her expectations of the new semester and to hear about her winter break.
Oakmont junior, Elizabeth Bonilla, made a statement about her highlight over winter break. She implied that getting a lot of sleep allowed her to be energized for going back to school
Bonilla also stated, “Being able to do a reset and getting things done, like cleaning my room and getting things done for school, helped me prepare for school.” By implying this, it seems that Bonilla authorized herself to rest but still complete tasks before returning to school.
Furthermore, Bonilla also talked about her feelings towards the new semester and the challenges ahead: “I am excited for a fresh start; however, the only challenge I am going to face is trying to focus, without thinking about the end of the school year.
Through the minds of many students, it was captivating to see their academic expectations, routines, and how they feel overall about the pressure ahead. Despite winter break becoming a fading memory, it can be accommodating to set goals and promise growth.
