As finals are quickly approaching, how can you prepare to do your best? Do you think finals should be a requirement or not?
Finals are used as a reflection of your understanding of the material from the class. It often becomes overwhelming trying to re-learn and study a whole semester’s worth of material. So, how can you prepare for finals?
Finals can cause some high stress and anxiety; this is normal because it’s an important test. Some things you can do to help prepare are study your past class work assignments or use study guides provided by your teachers. It’s also important not drown yourself in studying. You don’t want to be losing sleep over it, then you won’t perform as well on your test. When I’m getting ready to take a test, it helps me to start studying a week in advance. This is so I can be confident in the material and won’t need to cram the night before.
This is the first year at Oakmont that finals are mandatory for every class since before the COVID-19 pandemic. So this leads to the question, why are they mandatory now? I believe it’s to show the teachers how the class is doing overall, to help them teach a better class the following year or semester. Finals can be annoying to prepare for and “re-learn” some work from early in the semester. But because it’s graded, it’s important to do your best, so the teacher knows you understand the material. It’s also not going to bring your grade down a massive amount. So if you don’t do as well as you may have hoped, your grade isn’t going to plummet.
So, in conclusion, yes, finals are important, but try not to stress too much. Start preparing so you are not as nervous, and just do your personal best.
