On Saturday, March 7th, the Oakmont-Overlook Winter Percussion headed to their first competition at Melrose High School. Although they went up against many challenges besides judging, such as practicing in the cold for an hour before being let inside, broken mallets, and missing equipment, they still pulled through when it came to being judged.
They scored 2nd place out of 6 in their division, Scholastic Regional A, with a score of 76.35. Only 0.45 less than the first-place band! This incredibly close competition gives Oakmont an amazing chance at taking the lead in their next competition.
The Oakmont-Overlook Winter Color Guard also travelled to Melrose to perform their show “The Red Queen.” With a score of 74.4, the ensemble came in second place out of six groups. The color guard had an incredible performance and showed off all of their hard work and talent. You can see the Winer Percussion and Guard perform this Saturday, March 21st, at New Bedford High School. Go, Spartans!
