On March 14th, the Oakmont Jazz Ensemble competed at the MAJE State Finals at Norwood High School and Coakley Middle School. The stakes were high for the group as they had won a High Silver Medal at their previous competition, but were striving for a gold the second time around. Their hard work was rewarded when the band was presented with a Gold Medal and an MVP award for senior AJ Lasorsa on trombone, who also won the MVP award for all of Division II at the State Festival a few weeks earlier.
Oakmont, along with all of the other Gold Medalist bands, will be performing at the Gold Medal Showcase at the Hatch Memorial Shell in Boston. This is the 5th time in Oakmont’s history that the Jazz Ensemble has been featured in the Gold Medal Showcase, 3 of those times being in the last 4 years.
