On May 20, 2026, the French Honor Society held its induction of new members. This event formally integrates new members into the society and is held each year. To be eligible to join the French Honor Society, students must have finished French 1 and French 2 with a final average grade of 90 or above, ensuring that this society is full of passionate members.
This year, the society welcomed 5 new members who will help further promote the French language and culture at Oakmont. Additionally, some of the new inductees wanted to share their thoughts on the induction, and what they’re looking forward to the most in the future with the SHF.
The inducted members were the following:
- Amy Dorsey
- “To join SHF is a big honor! I have wanted to join since I learned about it, and I’m so glad to be a part of SHF! I look forward to getting to know all the members, getting more involved in my community, and experiencing French language and French culture!”
- Kaelyn Hildreth
- “Being inducted to the SHF was an incredibly unique experience that I won’t forget. I’m excited to watch the SHF grow and I am excited to participate in fundraising, specifically baking for the bake sale”
- Elaina Noyes
- Caroline Haenisch
- Sydney Moran
The induction ceremony began with a recitation of La Marseillaise, which is the French national anthem. This was then followed by an opening speech given by the SHF advisor, Ms. Le Grand, that introduced the ceremony and what the SHF is to the members and guests in attendance.
Ms. Le Grand became the SHF advisor around halfway through this year, and she holds big ambitions for the future of the SHF.
“I am very proud of our new inductees for their genuine interest and passion for the French language and culture. Our induction ceremony was such a special evening where I was able to witness firsthand what makes SHF at Oakmont special: its members,” said Le Grand. “Our SHF members are driven and have demonstrated a high level of teamwork and heart-warming collaboration. As a new advisor, I am looking forward to many exciting and rewarding events such as this one. I cannot wait to see all that we can accomplish to promote French in our community and beyond”.
Furthermore, SHF vice-president Jocelyn Cleaves gave her report of the year for SHF, in which she described how, even though many challenges faced SHF this year, the continued perseverance of the society has allowed the group to continue onward into a much brighter future for the coming year.
After these speeches were given, numerous SHF members shared their thoughts about the French Language and what the French language and culture mean to them. These discussed different reasons for learning French culture such as family heritage, traveling, and just curiosity in French culture.
The award ceremony then took place with both Ms. Le Grand and Oakmont principal Mr. Lizotte congratulating current members on their achievements, and welcoming the new members into the society with certificates and candles.
All members then recited the SHF pledge, which pledges their commitment to preserving and promoting the French language at Oakmont.
The ceremony then concluded with different French sweets and a trip to Kay’s in Westminster. Congrats to all of the new members, and thank you for your commitment to promoting the French language and culture at Oakmont!
