Movies are a time to unwind, eat some snacks, and enjoy the mystery story you’ll eventually lose yourself in. So, which ones are you watching this year?
Mortal Kombat II: May 8, 2026
To understand this movie release, you’re gonna need some background info.
Mortal Kombat is a popular two-player game that has been around for over 30 years. A gamer will choose an avatar as their fighter and go against either an NPC (non-playable character) or another player. The goal is to kill your opponent using the attack buttons, blocking, and enhanced movements.
Back in 2021, the game was adapted into a movie that follows the life of an MMA fighter, Cole Young, played by actor Lewis Tan.
In this year’s sequel, it follows the life of actor Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban, as he joins other fighters to defeat the dark rule of Shao Khan.
Backrooms May 29, 2026
4chan’s /x/, or paranormal, is an online forum similar to Pinterest, where anyone can upload images. These boards are dedicated to discussing the supernatural, conspiracy theories, and unexplained events.
On May 12 2019, two pictures were uploaded, taken in the 2000s of a furniture store that was being remodeled. The picture gave off a creepy vibe, almost like a never-ending room. Several people even recounted a feeling of familiarity, but couldn’t quite place why they felt that way.
The picture went viral again in 2024, with people making entities (monsters), scenarios, games, and YouTube videos. The increased popularity led A24 to turn it into a horror/sci-fi movie directed by Kane Parsons, creator of the YouTube backroom series.
Toy Story 5- June 19, 2026
One of the most popular and well-known movies, Toy Story, is coming out with its 5th sequel, following Woody and his friends while they navigate the issue of a new toy: technology.
Over the years, Toy Story has been an incredible franchise that mainly focuses on how the toys just want a kid to play with them. But with today’s improving technology, the toys now face new competition.
In this sequel, Woody and his friends will have to compete with their kids’ new toy, a Leapfrog, a child-safe version of an iPad.
With this new toy, Woody and friends will have to answer this one question: Are we really being replaced this time?
Supergirl- June 26, 2026
The Supergirl movie will follow the life of Kara Zor-el, played by Milly Alcock. Now, you might be thinking, “Why would I wanna watch a movie about someone who is just like Superman?”
Or so you think…
Supergirl is the complete opposite of Superman. She was forced to see her family being killed right in front of her. While she was sent to protect her baby cousin, Kal El, her ship veered off to a different course, causing her to be stuck in the Phantom Zone for 24 years.
After finding out her home planet was destroyed and that her baby cousin was now a 24-year-old man, Kara became hopeless. She would “planet-hop” and get wasted, not having a care in the world
During her galaxy exploration, she encounters Ruthey Maryan Knoll, played by Eve Ridly, who seeks revenge on Kerm after he killed her father. Seeing this, Kara decides to join her on this adventure to seek revenge and kill Kerm.
Moana (Live Action Version) -July 10, 2026
Moana was a Disney animated movie released in 2018 about a princess from Motunui, a fictional island.
In the animated film, Moana sets off on a mission to restore the heart of Te Fiti to save her island from destruction.
Throughout the adventure, she encounters an egotistical, self-centered demigod, Maui, who sets sail with her and makes things right with Te Fiti; he was the one who took the heart in the first place, thereby endangering Moana’s family.
This adaptation is not a sequel, but a live-action of the animated film starring newcomer Catherine Laga’aia, who will play Moana, and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Maui.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day- July 31, 2026
This is the fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man movie and the eleventh Spider-Man movie in the franchise.
In the last movie, No Way Home, Doctor Strange cast a spell that made everyone forget that Peter Parker was ever Spider-Man. But because Peter tried to alter the spell, it caused chaos throughout the multiverse.
Other villains from other Spider-Man universes began coming over into his. In the end, Parker asked Strange to cast a spell to have everyone forget who he is to save the multiverse.
Now an adult, Parker has to manage living a life knowing that everyone he loves doesn’t remember him. He also attempts to rediscover himself while balancing being a full-time superhero.
