Writing is so many things. It’s an outlet, a passion, a hobby, or even a job. Writing is something that can be done anywhere, at any time, with the freedom to be about anything.
I write as an outlet and also as a hobby. There are many forms of writing, such as creative writing, poetry, and even journalism. Sometimes people think to themselves, why would I write? But I don’t see why you shouldn’t. I am going to speak directly from my experience when I say, I always thought writing was for the “nerdy” students, but then I thought to myself, what could go wrong with just writing words on a doc or a page no one is ever going to see?
Some of you reading might relate when I say I’ve always had a lot of emotions. Sometimes I felt that I couldn’t stomach those emotions, so as a solution, I would write them down. I would channel all that built-up anger, sadness, anxiety, or even boredom straight into words on a page. What I wrote wouldn’t always make sense or have proper grammar, but that’s the beauty of writing: it doesn’t need to make sense; only you need to understand it.
Have you ever had one of those moments where the environment is so perfect and you never want to leave? Something I did was write down every little detail, the smell of the fresh blooming flowers, or maybe the beautiful splash of the rain falling. As I write, I take in more and more of each detail. Not only does it help me remember the moment, but I can look back and have a log of it in my writing.
You may be thinking, I’m not carrying around a pen and notebook everywhere to write. But you are doing that already. Everyone has their phone, smart watch, or laptop with them at all times, and all of those devices allow you to write, no matter where you are.
Writing can free your mind and help it interpret your surroundings, at any time, in any place. The only thing you have to do is start.
