Fire Cat

Emily Leger

I’m surrounded by fire. I don’t even know where it came from. Why was I left alone so suddenly? Blazing up, the fire is taking up all the oxygen in the room and replacing it with itself. I try to look around to find the person who was around when I fell asleep that night. The person who I have spent my whole life with. But yet, instead of them being where I left them, the bed is left empty, with the imprint of them left in the bed. I try to get out of this room, find the door, but the fire that surrounds me, fogs my vision. It takes up all my senses and makes my eyes useless. I can feel all my senses around me getting clouded with the blazing fire that is among me. I can feel the walls caving in around me as I hurry throughout the house to make my escape. I can hear a rumble along with a muffled voice yelling outside my home. I follow the voice that leads to the front door, I almost feel stupid not being able to find it. Scratching and scratching at the door, begging for someone to open it. After what felt like hours, it opened, light shining through the house, blinding me. The fire roars behind me, eating the oxygen the door just let in. I take a deep breath, looking around, I can’t see much but I can feel a breeze and someone’s hands wrap around my body. These hands pet me as they lead me out of the house. I can hear someone squeal and I immediately recognize the voice. It’s them. I start to regain my senses and I can see them, racing to me. Wrapping me in their arms they hold me as tight as the first time we met.
