What Happened During The Second Day Of School?

We’re back! That may or may not be a good thing, but let’s talk about the events that happened on the second day of school. Oakmont has started strong, with four different blocks full of varieties of things, from fun Kahoots to ALICE training. Each grade started with a different activity.

Freshmen started with our personal favorite, the Student Council Kahoot! The StuCo kahoot got very intense, with students frantically trying to get one of the fifty slots in the kahoot game, and then trying to be the sole winner of the kahoot. The prize of the Kahoot winner(s) earned an Oakmont t-shirt. Some of the Kahoots that the students played were 2000s cartoons trivia, logos trivia, and many other exciting topics.

The Sophomore’s started with picture day. All of the students in grade ten were gathered in the small gym, and lined up, hoping for a good picture for the yearbook. This was also the time that students who hadn’t gotten a Chromebook yet received one. Picture day is always one of the most scary days for students, where they have to make sure everything looks spot on for the camera. Once students were done getting their picture taken, they had free time in the gym, where they could do stuff like hang out with their friends, or read a book if they wanted.

The Junior’s started the day off with ALICE training. Officer Max Rameau and Officer Andrew Loescher did an exceptional job at informing us about this heavy topic. It was a bit repetitive, as we’ve learned about this every year, but still essential to our knowledge.

The Seniors started with their class meeting. Mr. Buswell, Mr. Cote, and Mr. Lizotte kicked it off, talking about how to prepare for the future. High School really does set you up for the future, so it was great that they all gave us some advice on ways to set ourselves up for the time ahead. Then, the class advisors took over the meeting and talked about the fun activities and fundraisers they have planned for the year. They also gave shout-outs to class officers, student council, and student advisory council. This meeting was a great experience for us, as it is good to know more information about your class and for ways to get involved with your class & school.

The day ended with an A, C, B, D schedule and shortened classes. This was a fun way to start the year off and get back into the swing of school. Let’s make 2023-2024 a school year to remember!
