Trees of winter

Winter Column: Boy, if the trees could speak!

Going outside can do so much good for your soul. Don’t let the air that gives you a shiver stop that. Boy if the trees could speak, they would say how they love it when we are outside.

They would say how in the cold months of winter people like to stay inside a warm house. So many people don’t like the winter season and I don’t get why. Don’t you just love the snow and the icicles hanging off my branches? Don’t I look so pretty?

I lose my leaves and gain a blanket of snow that keeps me warm from the harsh winds of a storm nearby. The snow and frost come to keep me safe from the danger of a winter squall.

Jack Frost is the first to arrive, freezing the ground and preserving it for when spring is ready to appear. The cold gusts of wind bring icy frost to give your cold nose a numbing kiss. Telling the animals it’s time for a nice winter slumber. As frost spreads around, it leaves a sparkle making everything look so delicate.

The animals have worked so hard to be in this time of the year. They had to gain their winter coats, collect all the food while finding a place to store it and make their home as cozy as can be.

Then the snow comes. A thick blanket made with flakes one of a kind covers everything. Snow is the reason people like you love the winter. All the activities it presents: making snow angels or snowmen, having a snowball fight, sledding with friends and family, skiing and snowboarding on a beautiful slope.

You can have so much fun in the snow making snowmen. A friend that comes to life at night, partying on the frozen ground. Enjoying its winter life of snowball fights, sledding, and playing with friends.

I especially love it when you come outside bringing a sled and a smile on your face. Looking down at you flying down a hill of frozen water then your momentum coming to a stop. The laughter as your friends scream at you to stop or you might run into me brings a lovely feeling of joy.

I think skiing and snowboarding are some of the most fun things to watch. You move so fast down the slope or fly when you go off the jumps made. It looks so fun. Oh, I wish I had legs for that reason. So I could have endless fun with my friends.

Just go outside. You won’t even realize how the time zooms by when fun is near. Have fun in the winter months because before you know it, it will be spring and you will be wishing for one more snow, ski/snowboard, or sled day full of fun.
