The National Honors Society at Oakmont Regional High School hosted a new event this year, honoring members who have gone above and beyond the requirements in terms of service. The event, called the “Service Award Dinner”, took place on May 6th at the “Mountain Room” restaurant located inside of Monty Tech.

The meal was prepared and served by members of both the Ashburnham and Westminster Lion’s Club. Following the amazing dinner, ORHS principal Mr. Lizotte, NHS adviser Mrs. Stefanakos, and NHS president Allyson Foley each shared a few words with the group.

To finish off the night Ani Seppelin and Maddie Johnson, co-chairs of the event, presented the three awards to their recipients. Samantha Hill was awarded the “Service in Leadership” award for contributing to countless events without any reward or compensation all year long. Skyla Nolan was awarded the “Service in Scholarship” award for her extremely hard work done in making the Learning Lounge a reality.

The final award, the “Service Award”, was given to Helen Yan. Helen was awarded a plaque that will hang on the walls of Oakmont for years to come, and inspire current and future students to willingly give their time and knowledge to others, just like Helen has done this year.

Oakmont’s National Honors Society plans on making this “Service Award Dinner” an annual event, that will recognize students that have worked very hard in order to make this community a better place.
