Oakmont Spartans Repeat Champions in Central Mass Class B Tournament

On Wednesday night, the Oakmont Spartans played Auburn in the semi-finals of the Central Mass Class B tournament. Oakmont pulled ahead early with the score at halftime being 42-13. Ryan Hulecki had 20 points and Seven Pridgen had 12 points, carrying the team to a 73-42 win.

The team’s win over Auburn moved them onto the championship game in the tournament, played on Friday night. The first quarter was back and forth scoring between both teams and left the Spartans down by three.  

Senior 1000 point score club member Ryan Hulecki said, “After being down by 3, I still felt confident in our ability to win.”

The Spartans came back stronger in the second quarter and held Worcester Tech to 3 points in the whole quarter. 

The Spartans started to pull ahead in the second half and increased their lead to 15 in the third quarter. Worcester Tech didn’t back down though, closing the gap to only six in the last minute of the game. 

Being only 6 points ahead with a 1:15 left Ryan said, “I still felt confident that we were going to win and I knew we could keep the lead.”

The Spartans held the lead and pulled off a 55-48 win to crown themselves the Central Mass Class B champions. Top scorers Ryan Hulecki had 21, Brandon Hulecki had 19, and Seven Pridgen had 12. This increased their seed in the state tournament which is up next for the team. 

The team is now seeded 8th in the MIAA Division 3 State Tournament because of their impressive record of 16-5. The team had a bye for the first round of the tournament. They will play the number 25 seeded Greater Lowell Tech on Friday at 7 at Oakmont Regional High School.
